Sicelo

Sicelo Nonganza originates from the Transkei in the east of South Africa. He now lives in Khayelitsha township, a huge, very poor ghetto made up of Shanty houses with little vegetation. Within this grim context Sicelo has had the imagination and skill to collect old tin cans and make them into exquisite recycled flowers.
He started making this art, at a time when he was desperate, without a job and sleeping on the streets. He had a dream where he was looking in the rubbish and he found some beautiful yellow flowers and these flowers brought him lots of money. After that Sicelo started looking for these flowers in the dustbins, but found nothing. Eventually he realized that he was to collect tins with beautiful colours and make them into flowers. Since then Sicelo has been making tin flowers and now supports himself and his family from the sales.

These artworks will soon be available to buy on this site.
